Raw Milk gets a Raw Deal

Back in May, I went down to Galena in southern Missouri for a story VOX Magazine was doing about raw milk. Bruce Salisbury runs one of the only Grade A licensed raw milk dairies in the state.

I went down on a Friday morning and was there for the 3:30 p.m. milking. And, let it never be said I won’t suffer for my craft: I caught a few hours of sleep in a nearby motel, and then was back for the 3:30 a.m. milking.

I learned a lot about how raw milk is handled. Bruce’s milk is actually healthier and cleaner than the pasteurized, homogenized milk from commercial dairies that’s allowed to be sold in grocery stores.
