The Oak Ridge Boys Live in Abilene
August 28, 2008
Tonight I got a call to go shoot the Rehab Dinner Show featuring The Oak Ridge Boys.
I have seen the signs all over town for months, and hoped that I would get this particular assignment. Growing up in Tennessee during the early and mid-80s, the music in the family car was a constant stream of Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Brothers, Dolly Parton and other country music staples. I remember being a kid and trying my hardest to reach those *really* low notes in “Elvira”…
I hadn’t listened to an Oak Ridge Boys tape or CD in more than a decade, but as soon as the first song started (”You’re the One”), all the memories came flooding back, and I was surprised to realize I knew nearly all the words to every song that they played. Sadly, I had to leave before they played “Elvira” (I was on a 9pm deadline, and the show didn’t even start until 9:20pm!)
Here’s a few shots from the evening:

I became an Oak Ridge Boys fan at the tender age of 8 when they came out with Yall Come Back Saloon. I have been a fan since and if you listen to Richard’s line in American Made maybe you should get a Nikon Camera. Oh, and nice photos as usual.
