Farmer’s Market
July 24, 2008
Last Saturday, I had another assignment at the local farmer’s market. The shoot was to illustrate a feature article on things you can cook with ingredients are currently available at the market. While I usually enjoy capturing people doing things, it was fun to do some “product” shots on location.
I just liked the colors, and the lines (the organic shapes of the veggies, and the inorganic straight lines made by the baskets) of this one.
If you squint, you can kinda sorta see a ying-yang thing going on
Shallow DOF makes me happy. Some days I really miss my 50mm f/1.4.
I don’t like to eat okra, but taking pictures of it is okay.

Funny story about eggplant:
Last time we went to Rwanda, I had booked us into an Episcopal Guest House. When we arrived, the sign over the door said “Auberge something or other.” I knew eggplants were often called aubergines, but the look on the clerk’s face when I asked him what the guest house had to do with the veggie was quite humorous.
Okay, maybe it’s only a funny story to me.

I love looking at photographs of farmers markets. I think it is all the repetition of form and variations in color.

Okra is my new best thing to eat. It’s slimy and bitter and wonderful and grows in my small veggie garden like a weed.
Beautiful pictures, as usual.

Still Life is underrated. It’s like testing an artist by asking him to draw a circle. Seems easy, but mastering it is actually quite difficult.
