The Drive Home
April 6, 2008
We spent the weekend in DFW with our friends, and decided to take the scenic route back to Abilene. Instead of boring old I-20, we took Highway 180 which had us passing through Weatherford, Mineral Wells, Breckenridge, Albany and numerous other small towns. The road brought us into Abilene from the northeast, right through the large windmill farms up that way.
I want to go back to re-shoot the photo below. I took a very small kit with me this weekend (just my 30D and my 17-40mm lens), and I really wish I had my 70-200 for this set-up. I love the juxtaposition of the old (the pump-jack) next to the new (the electric generating windmill). I’ll go back around sunset and see if I can capture this a little better.

I love the way home looks.
I want you to know that you, your family and ministry is always in my prayers.
The B-1 bombers flying over the skies.
ACU.
Churches on every corner.
And now a Starbucks!
God bless you brother.
In Him,

Aka,

I love these windmills. I think they are so visually interesting. There’s a place outside of Sweetwater on the way to Maryneal (where Mark preached a few years ago) where there is a dilapidated old house with an old-fashioned windmill surrounded by the new, huge, white ones. Whenever we would pass it, it was a visual reminder of how times have changed.

I think you should take a weekend, photography road trip around West Texas, capturing the oil wells, coal plants, and wind farms.
